Around what time did the British Empire begin excavating Egypt?
I am wondering if anyone could provide me with an answer to the time period that the British started excavating Egypt and studying it's ancient history. Was it around the 1890's? Or later?
I am writing a novel that will require historical accuracy. So specifics are greatly appreciated.
